Standards Work – Here’s Proof!
Recently, we decided to produce a new brochure highlighting the products and services we provide. We chose one of our clients, Premier Press in Portland, OR, to print our brochures. They’ve invested in and have implemented our Alder Color Control platform, so we thought they were the obvious choice – give them some business and see how well they’re doing with the color training and tools we’ve provided them.
This is an example of why standards (specifically GRACoL-CRPC6/G7) are so important. We did not ask for a proof but had generated our own verified proof, without letting them see it. Forget about the fact that there’s banding in our proof (Oops!) but note that their paper was slightly bluer than the spec/our proofing paper AND that we had a matte coating applied to the finished brochures.

You can see they are extremely close in color, with the differences mainly in paper white and overall sheen. By utilizing either G7 curves and/or ICC profiles and targeting the same standard we were able to produce proofs in-house that very accurately represented how the files should print. And Premier Press did an outstanding job of having their digital press setup and running to the standard. They are actually verifying their conformance to the standard daily, to ensure the highest quality, and can show the data/report of conformance should clients be interested in the geeky color science of printing.
Thank you to Premier Press for trusting us for their color management and process control products and training and for printing our new brochures at the highest level.
If you’d like to, you can download our brochure PDF here and print it for yourself. Simply send a request to [email protected] and we’ll mail you a printed brochure for you to visually compare to your proof.
