My presentation and perspectives from the American Packaging Summit.
Last month I attended the American Packaging Summit in Chicago. It’s a really interesting and different kind of event. Brands of all sizes attend to network, hear about emerging technologies, and talk with vendors in the industry about specifics. Alder Color Solutions sponsored the event this year and I had the opportunity to speak, not only at a session but personally with dozens of people – all of which need printing to deliver their packaging products.
Out of dozens of companies I met with, all but one had more than 1 Print Service Provider (PSP) to print their product packaging. I asked specific questions about how they communicate and approve color. All but one of them, which was the largest brand I talked to, are exchanging physical proofs and visually approving color, during in-person press approvals. One example was one of the smaller brands, a name most of you have heard of that makes men’s soaps, who have just one PSP in Mexico. Over the last year, the Associate Director of Packaging who lives in NYC, has travelled there 7 times to do press approvals. They’re doing this all by eye, no measured color data analyzed or gathered.
It struck me that almost nobody we spoke with was even aware that solutions where they could approve color and monitor quality control all using measured color data – and they don’t even have to be there. Not to mention the amazingly powerful visualization tools in our platform to see color accurately on monitors and print super accurate color on inexpensive inkjet printers.
We’re busy following up with everyone new met at the show, and have several trials already in progress just one month later. But I invite all agencies and brands who are dealing with print fulfillment for Printer Service Profivers to watch my presentation and contact us if they’d like more information.
